Classroom in the hospital

The Foundation of the Columbia Montour Chamber of Commerce, in conjunction with Berwick Hospital, hosts a Classroom in the Hospital for high school students in Columbia and Montour counties. The opportunity is open to 10th and 11th graders who are interested in pursuing careers in the health care field. Berwick Hospital can accommodate 3 to 5 students from each area high school.

The program takes place during the course of one school day at Berwick Hospital. The curriculum covers a wide range of careers including different types of physicians, nurses, and other health care personnel in fields such as pharmacy, radiology, laboratory services, physical therapy, nursing home care, rehabilitation, cardiac care, and more. The presenters typically use visual aids during discussions, and some tours of various areas in the hospital are included. Students are given plenty of opportunity to ask questions of the participating health care professionals. Lunch is provided to the students. Students only need to schedule their own transportation to and from the hospital. In most cases, a chaperone from each high school should attend.

The next Classroom in the Hospital will be scheduled for Fall, 2018.   Click here for the student registration form.
